Baskins Creek Trail Trailhead

Baskins Creek Trail Trailhead offers a moderately challenging 2.7-mile round trip through dense Smoky Mountain forest, leading to the scenic 40-foot Baskins Creek Falls. The trail begins just off Cherokee Orchard Road and steadily climbs through a mix of hemlock and hardwood trees.

The first mile features a steady uphill grade with several switchbacks - you'll gain about 800 feet in elevation. Watch for wildflowers in spring and vibrant foliage in fall. About halfway through, you'll reach an overlook offering views of Gatlinburg and Mount LeConte (weather permitting). The path then descends through a series of rocky sections before reaching the spur trail to the waterfall.

This free hiking area is accessible year-round from sunrise to sunset, though winter conditions can make the trail slippery. The path is well-marked but becomes increasingly rocky and rooted as you approach the falls. Wear sturdy hiking shoes and bring water - there are no facilities along the trail. The parking area accommodates about 10 vehicles and fills quickly on weekends and during peak seasons.

Best times to visit are early morning or late afternoon when the crowds are thinner. Allow 2-3 hours for the full round trip if you plan to spend time at the falls. The trail is suitable for intermediate hikers and adventurous beginners, but the steep sections and uneven terrain make it challenging for very young children or those with mobility issues.
