The overlook's name comes from the turkey vultures that frequently soar on thermal currents at eye level with visitors, providing an incredible chance to watch these massive birds in flight.

The journey to reach this scenic spot is part of the experience - and it's not for the faint of heart. The access road demands a high-clearance vehicle, as it climbs steeply through dense forest with multiple switchbacks and no guardrails. First-time visitors should allow extra time and avoid attempting the drive in wet or icy conditions.

From the parking area, a short but challenging trail leads to the main viewpoint. The 0.2-mile hike is steep, with loose rocks and exposed roots, so wear sturdy shoes and bring water. At the top, expansive views stretch across multiple mountain ranges, making this an excellent spot for sunrise photography or watching storm systems move through the valley.

The overlook is open year-round and free to visit, though winter access can be limited by road conditions.
