About Bluegreen Vacations Mountain Loft Resort
Mountain Loft Resort sits about 2.5 miles from downtown Gatlinburg, which sounds close until you realize it's a 30-minute walk uphill or you need to drive everywhere. We've stayed here twice, and the location works if you want to escape the Parkway chaos but still hit the attractions.
The townhomes are the real draw — we had a 2-bedroom that slept 8 with a full kitchen, fireplace, and balcony overlooking the mountains. Having that kitchen saved us probably $200 in restaurant meals over four days. The units feel more like vacation homes than hotel rooms, which is great for families who need space to spread out. Just heads up on the mattresses — they're pretty firm, bordering on hard.
One thing that caught us off guard: the pools are ice cold. I'm talking "pure ice water" even when it's 90 degrees outside, despite what you might read about heated pools. Our kids lasted maybe 10 minutes before giving up. The indoor pool isn't any warmer. The mini golf and fire pit are nice touches though — fire pit shuts down at 10pm sharp, which feels early for vacation mode.
The resort shows its age a bit. It's not shabby, but it's definitely not Bluegreen's flagship property either. Security is supposed to be 24/7 but good luck finding them on weekends or holidays. We learned that the hard way when we needed help with our keycard on a Saturday night.
Oh and if you're thinking you can walk to Dollywood, don't. It's 12 miles away, not some quick stroll like the website might suggest. Same goes for most Gatlinburg attractions — you'll be driving or catching the trolley from the stop down the hill.
