El Paso Mexican Restaurant

We've been going to El Paso since they opened in 2010, and it's still our go-to when we want Mexican food that doesn't feel like a chain. The free chips and salsa bar alone make it worth the trip — you get bean dip too, and there's like four different salsas to try while you're deciding what to order.

Their portions are huge, especially if you eat in rather than getting delivery. We learned that the hard way when we ordered through Uber Eats and got these tiny servings that left us still hungry. The carne asada tacos are legit though, and their grandma's chicken soup is this random menu item that somehow became famous around here.

One thing that bugs me is the chips aren't anything special — they're fine but nothing to write home about. But the margaritas are strong and the menu is massive, so you'll find something you like. They do buy-one-get-one deals on some entrees through the delivery apps, which is nice if you're feeding a crowd.

Fair warning: if you're going on a weekend night after Dollywood lets out, you're looking at a wait. The place fills up with tourists who've heard it's the "authentic" spot in Sevierville. It's authentic enough, but don't expect to be blown away — it's just solid Mexican food at decent prices with that salsa bar we keep coming back for.
